Where is the Justice League? Marvel's "Avengers" smashed the box office and is already gearing up for its sequel. Despite the handful of DC comic character movies already on the market, Warner Bros. has yet to establish a unifying universe for the DC superheroes to play in. "Man of Steel" is a stepping stone in the right direction. Other films such as "Green Lantern" and the "Dark Knight" saga are too fantastical to cater to all the Justice League members. "Man of Steel" creates a common ground. All heroes will flourish, including those that have yet to make their movie debut.
Now as talks of the potential Justice League movie barrel forward, other actors are looking to hop on board. Stephen Amell, who plays "The Hood," aka Green Arrow on The CW's "Arrow," has expressed his interest in joining the project. In a recent interview with SciFiNow, Amell opened up about his desires to play the hero in "Justice League of America" and compared to role to that of Robert Downey Jr's "Iron Man."
"I think that Green Arrow has an opportunity to mature in much the same way Iron Man did in the Marvel universe," Amell said. "He wasn't necessarily a top level character, but because they made an 'Iron Man' movie and it was successful, it vaulted him up and now he anchors the Avengers."
"It's always up to what's popular at the moment," he added. "Right now archery seems to be having a mini renaissance, so hopefully he can settle into a firm rotating member of the DC Justice League of America."
Amell's ambition and aspirations are admirable, but he has plenty of tough opposition in his way of becoming the top dog of the Justice League. Superman is the natural choice for the role, in the wake of the film's phenomenal success and increasing popularity of Henry Cavill, it's hard to see Warner Bros. going any other route.
Although Warner Bros. has remained quiet on the possible Justice League movie while fast tracking a "Man of Steel" sequel, Cavill himself opened up about the potential film during an interview with ABC News.
"'Justice League' could be great if done correctly," Cavill said. "It's a very tough one to do because the DC comic heroes are all god-like in their power. So in this real world universe, real-world setting we're telling our story in, it's going to be tough to achieve that. It has to be done very delicately with a lot of thought. So, it won't be right away. I hope it's not anyway. It may take some time of building up other movies and other characters and introducing them together in one way or another."
Although it's fun to speculate, Warner Bros. has a lot of work to do before casting for "Justice League of America" begins. Hopefully it gets done later than other. Fans will just have to wait and see.
