Sam Mendes has confirmed he will direct the upcoming "James Bond 24," producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli announced.
"Following the extraordinary success of 'SKYFALL,' we're really excited to be working once again with Daniel Craig, Sam Mendes and John Logan," said the producers.
Mendes followed the announcement by stating, "I am very pleased that by giving me the time I need to honour all my theatre commitments, the producers have made it possible for me to direct Bond 24. I very much look forward to taking up the reins again, and to working with Daniel Craig, Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli for a second time"
News of Mendes' invovlement comes as little surprise. A few weeks ago it was confirmed that Mendes was in talks with the producers and would most likely return to the film. Sony did not officially release the statement about Mendes directing, but confirmed that the film would be released in October 2015 in the U.K. and on Nov. 6, 2015 in the United States.
The 2015 release date adds another franchise to an already crowded year. "The Avengers 2," "Jurassic Park 4," "The Hunger Games Mockingbird Part 2," "Star Wars Episode 7," Independence Day 2," "The Fantastic Four," "Ant Man," and "Pirates of the Caribbean 4" are all also slated for release that year.
Daniel Craig will reprise the role of James Bond, while John Logan will write the film. Meanwhile, Ralph Fiennes and Ben Whishaw are rumored to return to the series.
The last James Bond film, "Skyfall," became the most successful film in the franchise. It received five Academy Award nominations, taking home two awards. It also became the most successful financially, making over $1 billion worldwide and the film scored rave reviews with a 92 percent aggregate score on Rotten Tomatoes.
