The trailer to the highly anticipated film "Oldboy" has premiered.
The new film, directed by Spike Lee, is a remake of the 2003 Korean revenge drama. The movie tells the story of an advertising executive, Joe Doucett, who is kidnapped and held hostage for 20 years in solitary confinement. When he is released, Joe embarks on an obsessive mission to discover who orchestrated his punishment and eventually finds he is still trapped in a web of conspiracy and torment.
"Oldboy" has received plenty of buzz throughout the past few days. FimDistrict first released the poster to the film online and then posted a picture of a Buddha figurine on the movie's Facebook page. The company also made sure to count down the days before the trailer premiered to garner buzz.
The original version of "Oldboy" was directed by Chan-Wook Park and premiered at the Cannes Film Festival where it won a Grand Jury Prize. It also won numerous Best Foreign Film Awards from various critics' societies. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution called the film "A visually beguiling trip that keeps pulling you along and keeps you wondering what fresh hell could possibly come next,"
Lee last directed "Red Hook Summer" and "Miracle at St. Anna." He is best known for his work on "Do The Right Thing," "Inside Man," "Malcolm X," and the "25th Hour." He is slated to next direct "Inside Man 2."
"Oldboy" stars Josh Brolin ("Milk," "No Country For Old Men") in the lead role, Elizabeth Olsen ("Martha Marcy May Marlene"), Sharlto Copley ("District 9") and Samuel L. Jackson ("Django Unchained," "Pulp Fiction"). Filmdistrict will release the new movie on Oct. 25 nationwide.
