Disney has announced that "Star Wars Episode 7" will be part of D23 expo in August.
According to the Hollywood Reporter the film will not partake in Comic-Con later this month and will instead head over to the D23 expo. Sources also told the Hollywood Reporter that some of the film's cast could appear at the exposition.
Casting has not been announced but it is known that the film is in the audition stages. A few weeks ago a casting breakdown was released and revealed that the project was searching for young actors. The breakdown included seven key roles, including a young man in his early-to-mid 20s, two young females who both have to be physically fit and an older man in his 70s.
Carrie Fisher, Harrison Ford and Mark Hamill are rumored to reprise their roles from the original trilogy. The rumors seemed to be confirmed after it was publicized that Fisher and Hamill were assigned personal trainers to get back in shape for the upcoming film.
Several former Star Wars cast members have already expressed interest in returning to the franchise including Samuel L Jackson, Ian McDiarmid and Anthony Daniels. Others, including Dwayne Johnson, Diane Kruger, and Kerri Russell, also stated that they wanted to do the new movie. However none of those actors were approached.
The new film will be directed by J.J Abrams and produced by Kathleen Kennedy. Michael Arndt will write the script and Abrams' frequent editing team of Maryann Brandon and Mary Jo Markey are already confirmed for the space opera. Darren Gilford is confirmed to be production designer and costume designer Michael Kaplan will create the wardrobe.
"Star Wars Episode 7" will start shooting in the UK in 2014 and will be released in 2015. The D23 Expo will begin on August 9th.
