The world is waiting in eager anticipation of the royal couple's royal baby, and every single minute detail that we can get our hands is definitely something to rave about.
Today, we have just found out what the little bundle of joy will be called ... No, we don't have the name yet, but we sure do know that the babe will have an impressive title.
"The royal couple's child will officially be known as His or Her Royal Highness Prince or Princess of Cambridge," a Kensington Palace representative confirmed to Us Weekly on Monday, June 8.
The title of Prince or Princess for the royal baby is in accordance with Queen Elizabeth II's proclamation in January. A notice published on the London Gazette, as reported by The Mirror, notes that the British monarchy has changed a "century-old" decree instated by the Queen's grandfather, King George V. The change allows daughters to be called "princesses" instead of "ladies," while sons will be addressed as "princes."
"The Queen has been pleased by Letters Patent under the Great Seal of the Realm dated 31 December 2012 to declare that all the children of the eldest son of the Prince of Wales should have and enjoy the style, title, and attribute of royal highness with the titular dignity of Prince or Princess prefixed to their Christian names or with such other titles of honor," the Palace statement read and published on January 8, a day before Kate Middleton's 31st birthday.
As for the baby's real name, a palace aid tells Us that it may take a while before the couple decides on what to call their first born.
"The couple have yet to decide on a name and probably won't until the day of the birth."
As a matter of fact, it could take as long as a month for Prince William and Kate to finally pick a moniker. Prince Charles and the late Princes Diana took seven days to name William, and the Queen and Prince Philip took over a month to decide on Charles' moniker, says Us.
The Duchess is expected to give birth on Saturday, July 13, at St. Mary's Hospital in Paddington, London.
