Anderson Silva's reign as Ultimate Fighting Championship's (UFC) middleweight champion abruptly ended Saturday Night after at the hands of Chris Weidman, paying a step price for fooling around in the Octagon.

Silva, who taunted the 9-0 underdog challenger throughout the match - letting his hands down, talking to Weidman as he made him miss, feigning he was hurt - caught a left hook from the challenger in the second round that laid the championut out on the mat. Weidman seized the opportunity, pounding the champion while he was down, before referee Herb Dean stepped in and called a halt to the fight.

"It [ticked] me off when someone tries to do that to me," said Weidman, who improved his record to 10-0.

Silva suffers his first defeated in 17 UFC fights, having successfully defended the middleweight title 10 times since beating Rich Franklin for the strap at UFC 64 in 2006. Silva's loss at the hands of Weidman ruins any plans for a "megabout" UFC president Dana White had planned between Silva versus UFC welterweight title-holder Georges St-Pierre or against UFC light heavyweight champ Jon Jones.

"That loss cost Georges St-Pierre, Jon Jones and Anderson Silva a lot of money," said Dana White in the post-fight press conference.

Silva recently signed a 10-fight deal, in early June, though he had stated he only wanted to sign a four-fight deal. Anderson promised fans he will fulfill his contract but did not seem interested in taking an immediate rematch with Weidman.

"[Weidman] has my respect. I worked my best, but I did not win. Chris is the champion now," said Silva in the post-fight interview. "That's it. I finished my work. I'm finished. I held the belts for a long time and now I'm tired. I have 10 more fights left, but not for the belt. I'm tired. Fighting changed my life, my clothes and my family."

The title will drastically changes Weidman's life, as well, after a year that saw the the birth of his son, CJ, the destruction of his Long Island home due to Hurricane Sandy that displaced his family, and rehabbing a shoulder injury that he aggravated while rebuilding his home.

"I felt I was destined for this," said Weidman. "I imagined doing this many times in my head, but it's surreal."
