The trailer to Amanda Seyfried’s new film “Lovelace” has premiered online.

The film tells the story of 19-year-old Linda Boreman, who became a crossover sensation after her talents were showcased in "Deep Throat," the movie credited with launching the "porn chic" craze of the early 1970s.

The film traces the porn star's journey from naive ingenue to the poster girl for the sexually freewheeling, pre-AIDS era and also follows her efforts to expose her own victimization and reclaim her old life.

The new film premiered at the Sundance Film festival to mixed reviews. Todd McCarthy of the Hollywood Reporter stated, “Smartly done account of the trials and tribulations of the first porn star.”

Damon Wise of the Guardian gave the film three stars out of five and said, “Though Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman's handsomely mounted period piece evokes the era with impressive detail, Lovelace's journey remains difficult to tell.”

Meanwhile Rob Nelson of Variety was negative about the film. He stated, “Reducing an immensely disturbing, politically byzantine tale to a series of cartoonish vignettes, this celeb-studded biopic squanders a gutsy performance by Amanda Seyfried.”

Simon Foster of Screen-Space stated, “Given content that screamed out for a vital, 'Boogie Nights'-style treatment, what we get is a workmanlike biopic that feels TV-safe rather than big-screen daring.”

Seyfried last appeared in “Les Miserables” and “The Big Wedding.” She also appeared in “The End of Love,” “Gone,” “Red Riding Hood,” and “Epic.”

“Lovelace” also stars Peter Sarsgaard, Sharon Stone, Juno Temple, James Franco, Bobby Cannavale, and Hank Azaria and is directed by Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman. RADiUS-TWC opens the film on August 9.
