Actor Pierce Brosnan's daughter Charlotte has lost her three-year-long battle with ovarian cancer, he confirmed on Monday. The 41 year-old passed away from the same disease that claimed the lives of her mother and her grandmother.
In a statement released to PEOPLE, Brosnan, 60, said, "On June 28 at 2 p.m. my darling daughter Charlotte Emily passed on to eternal life, having succumbed to ovarian cancer. She was surrounded by her husband Alex, children Isabella and Lucas and brothers Christopher and Sean."
The actor continued, "Charlotte fought her cancer with grace and humanity, courage and dignity. Our hearts are heavy with the loss of our beautiful dear girl. We pray for her and that the cure for this wretched disease will be close at hand soon. We thank everyone for their heartfelt condolences."
Charlotte is from Brosnan's marriage to former Bond girl Cassandra Harris, who he married in 1980. USA Today reported that Brosnan adopted Charlotte and her brother Christopher in 1986, when their father passed away. Brosnan lost his wife, Charlotte's mother, to ovarian cancer in 1991 when she was 43.
Former Bond co-star Robert Davi shared his condolences on Twitter, "Just been informed-my friend Pierce Brosnan has lost his daughter to an illness-my prayers and love go out to him and his family."
Fellow film co-star Stephanie Zimbalist added on Facebook, "Sad co-star news to announce. Please join us in sending love, prayers and sympathy to Pierce Brosnan and his family for the death of his daughter Charlotte."
According to PEOPLE, Charlotte leaves behind her husband Alex Smith and their two children, Isabella, 14, and Lucas, 8. She passed away in London.
