Just a few days remain before the premiere of the final season of Showtime's hit crime drama "Dexter" airs. Eager fans have desperately looked for any information regarding the show's eighth season. Showtime has tried to appease fans by releasing photos, sneak peaks and even some promos, but that just hasn't been enough for fans.
So far, fans know that Dexter (Michael C. Hall) and Deb (Jennifer Carpenter) are on the outs since Deb killed LaGuerta (Lauren Velez) to protect Dex. Fans also know that two twosome will get a possibly unwelcome surprise by someone from their past-Hannah (Yvonne Strahovski). Now, the actor behind the show's serial killer has opened up about his time playing Dexter Morgan and what lies in store for him this final feature.
Michael C. Hall spoke with Entertainment Weekly and spilled some secrets about what's to come. When talking about his now rocky relationship with his sister Deb, Hall said, "With the cliffhanger that ends the seventh season, all bets are off. For the first time the person who's always revered and looked up to him is turning his back on him, and that's sent him into a bit of a spiral."
Hall also teased that there would be a romantic interest for his character this final season, "but the primary relationship with a female is more of a maternal figure." Of course, Hall is talking about the newest cast addition, Dr. Vogel (Charlotte Rampling), who makes him rethink the balance he's maintained between being a killer and his humanity.
"The presence of Dr. Vogel in his life, this woman who did as much as anyone to fashion the code [when he was a kid], she's encouraging Dexter to believe his humanity is a misguided indulgence and who he's really meant to be is a psychopath and all the other stuff is bogus," Hall teased. "It's a reasonable argument. Dexter isn't so good at being human. He's always been an effective killer."
In other Dexter news, the show's costume designer Kathleen Felix-Hager spoke to Vulture to discuss Dexter's signature "kill shirt." Fans may recognize Dexter's distinctive green army shirt, but what they may not know is that it's actually not his kill shirt, but rather his "stalking shirt."
Felix-Hager clarified to Vulture, "There are two separate things that we refer to when we break down the script: the kill outfit and the stalking outfit. The stalking outfit is the Henley shirt and the cargo pants and his leather boots and leather gloves. It's sort of like Dexter's superhero costume. And then when he does his actual kill, there's what we refer to as the kill suit; it's a custom-made jumpsuit that's sort of like a flight suit that zips up the front."
The show's costume designer added that Dexter's green army shirt is meant to show off his body. "Michael has a fantastic body...it really shows off his shoulders and muscular arms and small waist. When we see him in the lab or at a crime scene, you don't see his shape. When you see him put on this superhero costume, you see how powerful and strong and quick and agile he is."
And there you have it. "Dexter" returns for a final season on Sunday, June 30 at 9 p.m. EST on SHOWTIME.
