Roberto Castro looks to solidify his position on top of the leaderboard after taking a slim lead in the opening round of the AT&T National. On Friday, the pressure is on him to build a considerable lead as Bud Cauley, Billy Horschel, and Masters champion Adam Scott try to make a strong run in the second round of play at Congressional.
Castro, who already has six professional wins around his belts, will attempt to add another crown at the AT&T National in the conclusion of the tournament on Sunday. But first, he has to overcome the challenges that await him in each of the next 53 holes and outperform the competition over the next three days.
Adam Scott, the pre-tournament favorite, will try to have a bounced-back round after shooting 1-over through his first 18 holes while Cauley, Horsche, and Russell Henley will have to sustain their good form from the opening round to keep themselves within striking distance.
On the other hand, K.J Choi is currently tied at 41st after shooting a miserable 70 in the opening round. Choi is the only player in the field who once upon a time won at the Congressional.
Tiger Woods, who will sit out the next three weeks heading up to the British Open, recorded two wins in the golf course while US Open winner Justin Rose won in 2010. Rory McIlroy has yet to win at Congressional, but the Irish also decided to skip this year's event.
