The New England Patriots still want Tim Tebow to play as a backup quarterback for Tom Brady despite dealing with serious woes in the tight end position.
The Patriots suddenly found themselves without a legitimate tight end player as Rob Gronkowski continues his rehabilitation from multiple injuries, while Aaron Hernandez gets released right after he was arrested and charged with murder on Wednesday.
Tebow, who was released by the New York Jets last month after one year with the football team, is being seen as an ideal solution to the Pats' tight end dilemma.
The 6-foot-3, 235-pound Tebow has the ideal size to mix it up with big defensive linemen and linebackers in this league, but the biggest question remains how good the former Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback can play at tight end position.
Moments after the arrest of Hernandez, sports fans flocked to Twitter to share their thoughts about the tight end's arrest and subsequent release and the possibility of Tebow replacing him in the spot. A columnist even said the arrest of Hernandez bodes well for Tebow's NFL career.
However, the Patriot insisted repeatedly that Tebow is going to be a backup quarterback, or if everything goes well, the successor to Brady.
The 25-year old Jake Ballard is being thrown as the possible starting tight end for the Pats until Rob Gronkowski returns from injury.
The 6-foot-6, 275-pound undrafted tight end out of Ohio State played two seasons and won a Super Bowl title with the New York Giants.
The Patriots will re-sign Aaron Hernandez once Tim Tebow forgives him of his sins.

Awful what surrounds Hernandez but this is a huge chance for @TimTebow to see the field. A move to TE/Hback guarantees me buying his jersey! — Mike Poplaski (@PoppaBear787) June 27, 2013
I'll say it again @TimTebow will LEAD @Patriots in receiving touchdowns this year
