After the box office success of "Man of Steel" and early reports of a sequel, speculation has run rampant on the internet. However, Superman himself is not ready to jump to any conclusions about upcoming project.
Henry Cavill, who portrays Clark Kent/Kal-El/Superman in "Man of Steel," recently told ABC News that he has not signed on for any sequels or new films in the franchise or DC Universe.
"Justice League, more [Superman] movies, I have no idea," he said in the interview. "Justice League could be great if done correctly.
He added, "It's a very tough one to do because the DC Comics heroes are all God-like in their power and so in this real-world setting we're telling our story in, it's going to be tough to achieve that..."It may take some time of building up other movies and other characters and introducing them together in one way or another."
The new Superman film has raked in over $219 million in its first two weeks, making it the highest grossing Superman movie of all time; the film has already reached $408 million worldwide in its initial days on the market and should easily top $300 million domestically.
The sequel buzz for "Man of Steel" was initiated by screenwriter David Goyer who already chimed in on how he sees the future characters in other DC Films.
"Warner Bros has hopes that there will be more Man of Steel films, and that this will be the beginning of a shared universe. We could meet Batman, or Wonder Woman, or the Justice League in these movies. But they all hinge on box office reception," he said.
Regarding a villain for the next Superman installment, Goyer also admitted that Lex Luther could potentially appear in the film. "If Lex is going to exist in the world, we would presumably have to give him the same treatment that we gave Lois Lane in the first film, which is make him a credible character. [...] He's gotta be a man of incredible intelligence, and presumably a man of incredible wealth and incredible resources," he said.
