Colombian actor Daniel Arenas has spoken out against William Levy's accent and has asked Televisa to help the actor with his Cuban accent.
The "Corazon Indomable" star told Formula Espectacular that Levy should allow the production team to help him get rid of his Cuban accent. He said that Levy needs a coach who will help him neutralize the accent. Arenas added that he understood his colleague because the Cuban and Argentine accents are the hardest to neutralize.
"Levy is not a bad actor. He is where he is because he is a good worker. However, I think if he fixed his accent and got some help he would be an even better one," Arenas stated. He also noted that he believed Levy should pay more attention to the directors because they are trying to make the work better and guide him.
Arenas concluded by thanking his audience for watching his telenovela. He said that even though it was his first lead role and he was competing with A-Listers Fernando Colunga, Eduardo Yáñez, David Zepeda, William Levy, and José Ron, "Corazon Indomable" received higher ratings.
Ever since "La Tempestad" starting airing in Mexico, the series has suffered low ratings and received mixed reviews because of Levy and Ximena Navarrete's lack of chemistry. However it was not the first time the novela hit headlines. When the Mexican production began filming in March it underwent massive criticism. The production team criticized Levy for his hard-to-understand Cuban accent. The producers stated that Levy's Spanish was barely comprehensible and a complete headache.
"La Tempestad" is based on the popular Colombian series "La Tormenta" which starred Natalia Streignard and Christian Meier. The series also stars, Ivan, Laura Carmine, Jessica Coch, Diana Bracho, Cesar Evora, Alfonso Herrera and Luis Manuel Avila. The series will premiere in the in US In July on Univision.
