The trailer to Ridley Scott's new film "The Counselor" has premiered online.

The film, starring Michael Fassbender, Brad Pitt, Cameron Diaz, Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem, tells the story of a Southwest lawyer (Fassbender) who thinks he can enter the drug business without getting sucked down. However he soon realizes that he made a bad decision and tries to get out of a desperate situation.

The film boasts one of the most impressive casts of the year and has already garnered Oscar buzz for Cameron Diaz and Javier Bardem. At an early screening, one critic stated, "Saw early cut of 'The Counselor' (Ridley's still working on it) and can only say that Diaz is absolutely fantastic. The closest to this performance of hers is 'Vanilla Sky.' But she's much more dangerous here, very sociopathic. Underneath all this sexiness there's something very dark and she absolutely nails it. I won't comment on the movie itself cause it's still in post-production but another performance you need to watch out from the movie is Bardem. He's awesome! He's so over the top but in a good way. Oh, and the work of Pitt is very sublime but I have a feeling he's gonna be overshadowed by Bardem ([Bardem's character] is bigger than life) during awards season. Shame because both guys deserve recognition."

The film is slated to hit the festival circuit in the fall.

Fassbender was last seen in "Prometheus" and "Haywire." He also starred in "Shame," "Hunger," and "A Dangerous Method." He will next be scene in Steve McQueen's "12 Years a Slave." Pitt can currently be seen in "World War Z." He recently starred in "Killing Them Softly," and "Moneyball." The Academy Award nominee will next appear in "12 Years a Slave." Diaz will next star in "Gambit" with Colin Firth while Cruz reunites with Pedro Almodovar for "I'm So Excited." Bardem can currently be seen in "To the Wonder" and "Alacran Enamorado." He last starred in "Skyfall" for which was nominated for British Academy Award and Screen Actors Guild Awards.

"The Counselor" marks Cormac McCarthy's first screenplay and Scott's first film since "Prometheus." Fox will unveil the new movie on October 25.
