Marvel has announced that a new superhero movie will be released in 2016.
The announcement came two weeks after Marvel revealed that it planned on releasing two other films in May 2016 and May 2017. The newly announced movie is slated for a release in July. However details were not revealed on the mystery project.
Marvel's new release plan follows in the footsteps of the company's first phase films. In 2011 Marvel released "Thor" in May and in July the company unveiled "Captain America: The First Avenger." The newly planned movies will be part of the phase three films after "The Avengers 2."
Rumors point to a "Doctor Strange" film while others believe the new film could be either a third "Thor" movie or "Captain America" film. Both Chris Hemsworth and Chris Evans currently have a three-film contract with the studio and therefore Marvel will most likely try to fulfill the deal. There are also rumors that a new hero could appear or that Marvel is planning a S.H.I.E.L.D movie.
The studio is currently working on phase two films leading up to "The Avengers 2." Marvel recently released "Iron Man 3" and is slated to unveil "Thor: The Dark World" in November. "Captain American: The Winter Soldier" and "Guardians of Galaxy" will then be released in 2014 and in 2015. "The Avengers 2" and "Ant-Man" are also scheduled.
Marvel began its first Avengers phase in 2008 when "The Incredible Hulk," and "Iron Man" were released. The company continued with 2010's "Iron Man 2" and followed up with "Thor" and "Captain America." In 2012 "The Avengers" was released and became the highest opening of all time. It also became the third highest grossing film of all time domestically and the third highest grossing film worldwide.
