Cuban-American journalist and author Myrka Dellanos gave an interview after a almost four years hiatus away from the cameras. She talked to tvnotas.com.mx about suffering an abusive relationship in her third marriage and her struggles trying to find the love of her life.
The Cuban-American presenter was the first personality to participate in a new campaign for the "Yo Soy Segundo" (I Am Second) foundation that addresses domestic violence, where Dellanos shared her experiences aiming to inspire others to overcome hard times. The video is directed to those who have endured abuse, addictions, broken homes or domestic violence.
"One of my childhood dreams was to have a lifelong marriage, and when you get married you think you will. In my case, that couldn't be because I had three divorces. That's why I agreed to make this video, to help other women so they don't go through the same situation", the 48-year old explained.
In the video, she doesn't hold anything back, remembering the time when her first husband, doctor Alejandro Loynaz, told her he needed a few days on his own and ended up leaving for ten months. "A friend introduced me to a young doctor, who was seven years older than me. We got married almost immediately. The problems started right after I had my daughter Alexa, and they were many, so after seven years we got divorced", said Dellanos.
The "Primer Impacto" former host confessed of feeling embarrassed over people regarding her as the originator of the problems since she has had three failed marriages. "Imagine sharing your pain in front of a camera, when you're used to being on the other side, asking questions. It's puzzling", she said.
Her second marriage to David Matthews didn't go well either. "I married him two years after I got divorced from my first husband. By the end of our first year together, he told me it was difficult to have a lifelong relationship. You can tell I was nervous, hysterical, I didn't know what to do!".
But her last marriage to her third husband was the worst one. "He tried to become the man I was hoping for. We got married right away, but four months later he was arrested for domestic violence. Shortly before that incident, he told me he didn't believe in God, that he had lied in order to marry 'Myrka, the TV personality'. I just prayed the Lord 'Help me! I don't know how to get out of this."
