The Ryan Miller situation in Buffalo has been one of the great questions in the NHL offseason. Will the former franchise goalie be moved out of Buffalo or will the team ride Miller in the final year of his contract? Even though that question has not been answered, the Sabres have made it clear that they have no intention of getting rid of backup goalie Jhonas Enroth.
The team announced Thursday that it has signed the 24-year old to a two-year contract worth $1.25 million per year.
"I think that given [Enroth's] age, his experience [and] what he's been through, he's in a great position to really advance his career at this point," Sabres general manager Darcy Regier stated. "The biggest thing is I think, after that point, I told myself to go out and relax and play like I know I can. That worked for me the last couple months."
Enroth is coming off a solid season in which he put up a 4-4-1 record with a 2.60 goals against average and a .919 save percentage. Enroth has a career 2.72 GAA and .914 save percentage in 53 NHL matches.
Despite being shown confidence by his club, Enroth has not made any indications about the implications of his extension.
"Obviously I care what's going to happen with [Ryan]. He's a very good friend of mine and I look up to him a lot," Enroth said. "I wish all the best. Whatever happens, happens. Who knows what's going to happen? I try not to worry about that too much right now and just try to get ready and get in shape for the season."
