Francisco Joel Mendoza's "La Diva de la Banda" movie has lost its financing.
The Jenni Rivera biopic has been put on the line after executive producer Andy Hernandez left the project. Hernandez told El Gordo y La Flaca that he was no longer going to fund the movie because director Mendoza was very offensive to the Rivera family. He added that he had fought with Mendoza and that he no longer cared what happened to the movie.
Hernandez also stated that he had obtained the majority of the money to produce the film but failed to quote the total amount.
Mendoza later told the show that he had no idea that Hernandez was leaving the project and that they had a fight in Hollywood. Mendoza said the cause was due to the press conference when he announced the film and insulted the relatives. The director admitted that he was a bit nasty to the family and that he breached the contract which stated that the Rivera Family would not be insulted or contacted.
He also said that he would try to convince Hernandez to return. When asked how much he had lost, the director said that he did not handle the money and was not sure how much Hernandez was investing in the project. However he confirmed that the movie would cost $14 million to produce and that he would recreate an important story.
He concluded by stating that he had not contacted the Rivera family and that he had no interest in speaking to them.
"La Diva de la Banda" is slated to start shooting in July. According to reports the film will contain 80% of Rivera's life and will also have fictionalized events. The film is set to hit theaters on December 6th in Mexico with a DVD released shortly after.
