Guillermo del Toro's "Pacific Rim" comes out in a few weeks, but positive early reactions and reviews are starting to circulate on the internet.
Peter Sciretta of Slashfilm expressed admiration for the Mexican director's latest effort. "I'm allowed to tell you GDT showed me #PacificRim, and it is as awesome as you were hoping it would be. :)," he tweeted. "Pacific Rim: Insane action. feels huge&heavy. live action anime. humor will surprise. filled w/mythology, Day's performance = 75% Moranis GB."
Jeremy Smith was also positive about the film. "Guillermo del Toro's PACIFIC RIM is the goods. A rousing tribute to Harryhausen, Honda and the unfettered imagination of 13-year-olds," he tweeted.
More positive comments came from Drew McWeeny who stated, "I can pass along that Film Nerd 2.0 saw the film with me, and it tore off the tops of their heads and permanently scrambled them."
He added, "@andreweplotkin @slashfilm @Micah_Roberts @HitFix Five and eight. They've grown up on giant monster movies. Loved every frame."
Devin Faraci was equally enthusiastic. "I saw PACIFIC RIM. It is awesome, in the true sense of the word," he wrote on Twitter.
Aside from the recent reactions, Boxoffice.com screened the movie and expressed excitement. "Saw this recently. Action, visuals were awesome...monster versus robot fighting was quite the spectacle (though unfortunately the last big scene wasn't as good as the one before it). Otherwise this quote is right...characters were uninteresting and so was the story. Watch for the action, that delivers pretty well... It's got creativity in its design and style though more than some other blockbusters, but heart? Naa," wrote the publication. "Yeah, the movie is still fun. I mean, it's still giant robots fighting giant monsters. If that's what you want to see...that's what you'll get. And it delivers on that front."
"Pacific Rim" hits theaters on July 12, 2013. It stars Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba, Ron Perlman, and Charlie Day.
