Former Super Bantamweight kingpin Nonito 'The Filipino Flash' Donaire is reportedly trying to set up a re-match with current champ Guillermo Rigondeaux after he suffered a 12-round unanimous decision loss to the Cuban boxing artist last April.
According to the latest news, Donaire, a four-time division champion, has been eager to face his tormentor once again and re-capture the IBF, WBO, and Ring Magazine Super Bantamweight crown.
The Filipino Flash was previously rumored to fight Juan Manuel Lopez later this year, but that fight was thrown out the window following the Puerto Rican's devastating loss (4th round TKO) to his stable mate Mickey Garcia last Saturday.
"JuanMa" is out as a potential opponent. "I hope I can get a rematch with Guillermo Rigondeaux," Donaire told Phil Boxing.com.
There's also a possibility Donaire will move up to the featherweight division and pocket more money out of blockbuster fight against several notable fighters in that division, including WBC titleholder Abner Mares.
Yet again, the ongoing rivalry between Bob Arum's Top-Rank Promotions and Oscar De La Hoya's Golden Boy Promotions appears to be the biggest hurdle for that showdown to happen.
Donaire has been vocal in his intention to win multiple titles in different weight classes. However, time is ticking fast for the 30-year old Donaire to give his best Pacquiao impersonation. Pacquiao has won eight titles in eight different divisions, making him the first boxer to accomplish such a feat.
