Mexican comedian Roberto Gómez Bolaños, "Chespirito", best remembered for his characters "El Chavo del Ocho" and "El Chapulin Colorado", revealed that his health is deterorating and that he can no longer walk or hear properly.
"I can not walk anymore and that's my biggest problem and my hearing is virtually gone, I have a hard time with that" the actor told Mexican gossip magazine TV y Novelas in a telephone interview.
"It's very limiting not to be able to hear anything. Right now I can hear you because the phone is very loud. But I can no longer go to the movies, or to the theater, and it breaks my heart not to be able to go to the theater and watch a play, " the legendary comedian lamented.
Despite his recent health tribulations. Gomez Bolaños maintains a good sense of humor. The actor pointed at the more than twenty times he has been pronounced dead on Twitter, something he found to be the source of amusement.
Chespirito, who will turn 85 this year, told the Mexican publication that he relies on Twitter to maintain a strong relationship with fans and that he spends a lot of time replying and sending messages to those who take the time to write to him on the social networking site.
Gomez Bolaños began his career in advertising after which he began to write scripts for other comedians like Viruta and Capulina. In the 70s he created the character of El Chapulin Colorado which brought him international success mostly among Spanish speaking audiences. Perhaps his most revered character is El Chavo Del Ocho, an archetypal poor urban kid from Mexico City, that seemed to strike a chord with Latin American audiences who still watch the show to this day.
