The murder of Javier Hernández Rodríguez, the brother of Pablo Montero, was the result of a robbery that went sour, according to local authorities, in Torreon Coahuila, Mexico.
Sources from within the State's Attorney General Office are claiming that Luz Maria Videgaray Rodarte, the woman who was with Hernández Rodríguez on the night of the murder, has made some statements to police that have allowed them to move forward in their investigation.
According to the report, Hernandez and Videgaray that night decided to visit a friend in the downtown area of Torreon. Along the way, they were intercepted and attacked by at least four individuals, who beat and stabbed both of them, and then stole all their belongings.
Videgaray survived and was taken to a hospital by paramedics. Authorities said they will wait for her to heal so she can elaborate even further in her explanation of what happened, because at the moment her health is still delicate. The woman had to undergo reconstructive facial surgery, so at the moment she is unable to speak, but according to doctors, she is out of danger.
Montero, meanwhile, called on the authorities. for justice to be done, and for acts like these to not be left unpunished.
"The truth is we need peace and security in this city. I do not live here, but I hear about horrible things that happen everyday. Something must be done," Montero told media gathered outside the mass that was held for his brother.
"My mother is very concerned, she obviously is very hurt by all this, but we are giving her as much support and strength as we can, and we are united as we have always been," the singer added.
The Mass was attended by family members and friends of Hernández Rodríguez, in an attempt to maintain privacy.
The singer asked publicly for authorities to solve the murder of his brother Javier. In 2010, Montero's other brother Oliver, died of a gunshot wound to the chest while driving on the Torreon-San Pedro highway in northern Mexico in an apparent kidnapping attempt. Until this day no one has been charged with the crime.
