In the wake of the season 9 finale, fans have been desperately waiting to learn what's in store for the interns on "Grey's Anatomy." It remained unclear as to whether or not they would return in season 10 or be discarded to make room for the next batch of newcomers. During the finale however, Alex finally confessed his love for Jo as they embraced for a long awaited kiss, so how could the show just end their love story there?
It didn't. Camilla Luddington, Gaius Charles, Jerrika Hinton and Tessa Ferrer, who play the interns Jo, Shade, Stephanie and Lea, respectively, will all return to season 10 as series regulars, according to TVLine. The only intern that did not receive a series promotion is Tina Majorino, as she committed to TNT's new drama, 'Legends.'
In the wake of their promotions, fans have lashed out against the decision, claiming that the show is already crammed with too many characters, leaving less time to focus on the ones they really care about.
"We get less time watching the characters we love. Tired of all the shows adding new characters," wrote Diane Vandrel.
"Just what Grey's needs, more characters," wrote a sarcastic Candace on TVLine, spawning a long thread of similar comments, the majority of which agreeing with Candace's frustration and claiming that of all the interns, Majorino's character was the best, the only one of the interns who will not be returning.
Before receiving the news, Luddington had been skeptic of the interns' return. "On that show, everything and anything can happen and I don't trust anything to necessarily last," she said. "We weren't all on series regular contracts; we could have been written out at any moment. You never know what's going to happen-if suddenly [his ex-girlfriend] Lucy will come back or I get killed by a tree-you just don't know."
"Grey's Anatomy" will return to ABC this fall.
