Loki will not return to "The Avengers 2."
According to director Joss Whedon, Loki will not appear in the next film even though he will be making an appearance in "Thor: The Dark World." The director told Empire Magazine, "Everyone is going to be looking for the Loki-Hulk smash moment... First of all, imitating what I did before is the surest way to do it not as well."
The news does not come as a surprise because at the end of the first film, it was revealed that the powerful Titan known as Thanos was pulling the Asgardian's strings and organizing the Chitauri army. The reveal suggested that he would be the next major villain that Iron Man, Hulk, Thor, Captain America and the other superheroes would have to face.
"The Avengers 2" is currently in pre-production with Whedon on board to direct. Whedon recently revealed that the film would add superheroes Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch to the cast and also stated that production would begin in 2014. "We should start shooting I think in February," he revealed in an interview with Entertainment Tonight. "I didn't think I was gonna do the second one, but I had an idea for it before I had figured out the first one."
"You go into a movie not assuming that there's going to be [a sequel]. I did sort of know, well... if they were to come back, I know what's going to happen and it's going to be awful!" he added.
"The Avengers 2" is slated for a release in 2015 and will reunite Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Scarlet Johannson, Chris Evans and Mark Ruffalo.
