Ed Sheeran has established himself among other musicians as one that creates for a cause. Music makes the world go 'round, so why not make it a better place while you're at it?
Sheeran recently hopped on board The ONE Campaign and contributed a cover of Bob Dylan's "Masters of War" to help raise awareness of worldwide poverty. As The Associated Press reports, "The agit8 project, which hopes to influence leaders at next week's G-8 summit in Northern Ireland, is backed by the One Campaign set up by U2 front man Bono." Sheeran, along with Green Day, Sting and Mumford & Sons have all contributed to the agit8 Project. Check out the video of Sheeran's Bob Dylan cover below.
As their site states, ONE is giving performers the opportunity to "get on their soapbox" to capture the spirit of the protest song. From high profile musicians to street buskers they will be amplifying the voices of those who spoke up for social change throughout history. And just as protest songs in the past have spread, the site will also broadcast these performances around the world to inspire today's generation to take action.
Co-founded by Bono, ONE is a campaigning and advocacy organization of more than three million people taking action to end extreme poverty and preventable disease... because the facts show extreme poverty has already been cut in half and can be virtually eradicated by 2030. Check out the website, complete with more songs by influential musicians here.
