Three people were reportedly killed after a car crashed on another incoming vehicle causing a violent collision at Pico Rivera, California. Two of the victims were children.
The crash happened around 8:45 p.m., Thursday, when a Honda Civic was driving down the curve in the 3500 block of San Gabriel River Parkway. Lt. Arthur Scott of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said the Honda was "going too fast" that it wheeled towards the incoming traffic in the southbound lane, crashing head-on into a Nissan Sentra.
The Los Angeles Times reports the Honda was taking children home from a party.
Upon impact, the driver and the two children were thrown out of the car causing their immediate death. The driver was 22 and the children were 11 and 13 years old.
"It's terrible," Lt. Andrew Meyer of the Pico Rivera station told The Times.
A woman at the passenger's seat and another 13-year-old at the backseat of the Honda were rushed to the hospital and were reported to be in serious condition.
"He's able to talk. He just has a little bit of road rash, a little gash," grandfather of the 13-year-old survivor, Humberto Flores, told ABC News. "He doesn't remember a lot. I was trying not to make him talk too much because he was badly injured."
According to the news site, the children came from a pool party celebrating their graduation.
The two women in the Nissan Sentra were also rushed to the hospital to undergo treatment. They were reported to be in serious condition Thursday, but are now said to be in stable condition, reports ABC.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation; however, deputies say that speeding could be a clear option for the accident. So far, drugs and alcohol doesn't seem to be a factor in the crash.
