As the weeks drag on and "50 Shades of Grey" fans clamor for any news on the movie, there's still not much from E.L. James or Universal Studios. In the absence of concrete details, new speculation has the rumor mill churning about a tasty new morsel who could be suited up to...suit up as Anastasia Steele. It's none other than former Disney star Selena Gomez.
A Hollywood Life insider had this to say about Selena Gomez:
"Now that Selena is growing up to be a more serious actress and separating herself from her Disney past, she has no problem going topless if the role calls for it... Without a doubt, Selena would go topless in a film if the role was right."
If Gomez is indeed considering rolls without a top, and is actively seeking a more mature line of work, then "50 Shades of Grey" would undoubtedly fulfill both those requirements since the movie's writers are apparently shooting for an NC-17 rating. The ex-Disney princess has already shown her penchant for showing off her body in movies such as the recently-release "Spring Breakers."
If Gomez does choose to sign on with E.L. James and Universal Studios, she could potentially be paired off with steamy "Vampire Diaries" heartthrob Ian Somerhalder, who is currently leading the rumor pack about who will play Christian Grey.
In other 50 Shades news, it looks like "50 Shades of Grey" author E.L. James and movie producer Dana Brunetti recently tweeted pictures of Universal Studios. Not much to be gleaned there, but at least they're getting to work. If all goes well, enough of those visits to Universal Studios could end up in a final casting decision.
"50 Shades of Grey" is currently slated for a summer 2014 release by Universal Studios.
