For well over a year, "Hunger Games" fans have been counting down the days until "Catching Fire" arrives. Since the original "Hunger Games" hit theaters in March 2012, the sequel has lingered in the distance, tantalizing fans as they drool over every trailer, cast interview and set photo. Although the "Hunger Games" army seems invincible, some believe that "Catching Fire" won't stack up next to some of the year's other major blockbusters.
According to Paddy Power, Superman's "Man of Steel" will take the cake as the year's highest grossing movie with 11/8 odds. The movie will go head to head with Robert Downey Jr's "Iron man 3," which sits pretty with 2/5 odds. However, following its UK release tomorrow, "Man of Steel" could easily rocket to the front of the pack.
As for "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire," they're pegging it as the fourth highest grossing movie of 2013 with 12/1 odds of claiming the title. It falls behind "Iron man 3," "Man of Steel" and "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug" in the projected rankings. Check out a list of the top eight below.
2/5 "Iron Man 3"
11/8 "Man of Steel"
10/1 "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug"
12/1 "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire"
16/1 "Stark Trek 2"
20/1 "Monster University"
40/1 "Anchorman: The Legend Continues"
50/1 "Pacific Room"
A spokesperson from Paddy Power said, "with odds like these, it could be a tightly fought bloodbath for the top spot at the box office. With aliens, hobbits, and boozed up news anchors all competing, I wouldn't want to be in that fight." And don't forget superheroes too.
"The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" hit theaters November 22 via Lionsgate. Read the official synopsis below.
"The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" begins as Katniss Everdeen has returned home safe after winning the 74th Annual Hunger Games along with fellow tribute Peeta Mellark. Winning means that they must turn around and leave their family and close friends, embarking on a "Victor's Tour" of the districts. Along the way Katniss senses that a rebellion is simmering, but the Capitol is still very much in control as President Snow prepares the 75th Annual Hunger Games (The Quarter Quell) - a competition that could change Panem forever.
