***Major Plot Spoilers Ahead***
Many questions have been asked over how long Jor-El (Russell Crowe) is actually in the film. Although he gets killed by General Zod (Michael Shannon) at the beginning of the film, Jor-El actually has a significant amount of screentime as his conscious is stored in the S-shaped key he gives to his son Kal-El at the beginning of the film. He reappears throughout the film and even helps his son and Lois Lane escape from Zod's ship when they are kidnapped.
Another big question that many fans have been wondering about is whether the film has action. In 2006 when "Superman Returns" was released many complained over the lack of action sequences in the film. In fact even though the film scored positive reviews, it failed to excite audiences. Zack Snyder's new film has a total of four action sequences. The beginning of the film starts out with an action sequence in Krypton in which Jor-El runs away from Zod's army in order to save his child. The sequence features Matrix-like babies and dragons that looked like they were pulled from Avatar.
The following action sequence features a brief battle between Superman and General Zod in which the former defeats his enemy. Zod's mask gets destroyed and he is unable to adapt to earth's environment. Once his henchman rake him back to the ship, Superman faces off against Faora and another Kryptonian. The U.S army attempts to stop Superman, Faoura and the henchman but is unsuccessful. During the battle Superman saves Colonel Nathan Hardy and almost kills Faora. By the end of the battle the government trusts Superman and agrees to work with him to destroy Zod.
Immediately after the battle Zod uses his secret weapon to destroy all living beings on Earth in order to re-establish Krypton and its people. Zod is successful in almost destroying Metropolis but Lane and Superman are able to stop the machines. Utilizing Superman's ship, the team re-opens a black hole that sends the Kryptonians back to their prison.
Zod, angered by his failure, duels with Superman in an air battle that concludes at Grand Central station. When Zod is about to kill a family, Superman has to choose whether to destroy the last Kryton being or let the family die. He eventually chooses the family and breaks Zod's neck.
The film concludes with Superman returning home and getting a job at the Daily Planet where he disguises as Clark Kent.
The film has obtained positive reviews with David Salazar of Latinos Post stating "An Action-Packed Study Of Double Identities, Paradoxes." Read the full review HERE.
