Malawi will look to salvage its World Cup hopes when it takes on Kenya in the qualifiers on Wednesday.
The top team in the group moves on the next round to face another group winner in a two-legged matchup. The winner of those contests moves on to the World Cup finals in Brazil next summer. Nigeria currently sits atop the group with eight points while Malawi sits in second with six. If Nigeria wins and Malawi loses, then the latter club would be eliminated as it would be unable to garner more than nine points in the group stage. If Nigeria were to draw or lose against Namibia, Malawi could seize first place with a victory over Kenya.
Malawi drew 0-0 in its first game against Kenya and tied 1-1 with Nigeria in its second match. The club finally pulled off a win when it defeated Namibia 1-0. Unfortunately a 0-0 draw with Namibia in the following match slowed Kenya's momentum.
Kenya currently sits at the bottom of the group with two points; the team is officially eliminated from the competition and has no hopes of proceeding to the next round.
Prediction: Kenya has nothing to play for while Malawi is battling for its World Cup hopes. Look for the latter club to come out flying and attacking; Kenya wins 1-0.
