Iran will look to solidify its position in Group A of the AFC World Cup 2014 Qualifiers when it takes on Lebanon on Tuesday.
Iran currently sits in third place in Group A with 10 points in six matches. Iran won its first match against Uzbekistan 1-0 but drew 0-0 against Qatar in its second game. The team then lost 1-0 to Lebanon before defeating South Korea 1-0. A 1-0 loss against Uzbekistan slowed down the Iranians but they responded with a tremendous 1-0 win over Qatar that eliminated the latter club.
Iran is only one point behind Uzbekistan and South Korea for the group lead. The top two teams in the group book automatic passage to the FIFA World Cup in Brazil next summer. The third place team must face off against the AFC Group B third place side. The winner of that matchup takes on the fifth place side in the CONMEBOL for a chance to play in Brazil.
Lebanon currently sits in last place with five points; the team is eliminated from the competition. Lebanon's tournament got off to a tough start with a 1-0 loss to Qatar, a 1-1 draw with Uzbekistan, and a 3-0 loss to South Korea. The team eventually won its only game of the round against Iran but dropped two straight against Qatar and Uzbekistan. In its most recent game, Lebanon tied South Korea 1-1.
Prediction: Iran has all the momentum and will take advantage of home field with a 3-0 win.
