Alejandro Fernandez will participate in the second part of the film series "Despicable Me," giving his voice to the Latin character "El Macho," a ruthless and dangerous villain.
Mexican singer described the experience in declarations reproduced by the magazine People en Español:
"I had always been curious to participate in a children's film. This is a character who is very proud of his country, but it's different from me because he is a villain. Make dub isn't as easy as people think, but I have the advantage of working with music and sounds, and that helped me a lot. This role is something I do for all children, and gladly for my children, and I hope it lasts for a lifetime," he said.
Besides Fernandez, other stars are confirmed to be lending their voices to the second installment. Comedian Andrés Bustamante will perform the role of Gru, actress Andrea Legarreta will participate as agent Lucy Wildem, actor Edgar Vivar—remembered for his characters Ñoño and Señor Barriga in "El Chavo"—as Silas Pietraserón, the lead singer of the band La Gusana Ciega, Daniel Gutierrez, as Floyd and actress Monica Huarte as Jillian.
"Despicable Me" is an animated film that was released in 2010 and tells the story of a villain who wants to steal the moon. The flick was a worldwide success and its second part is scheduled to be released on July 5, 2013.
Fernandez is also working on putting the finishing touches on his new album, as the artist indicated himself via his Twitter account. The first single off the new album, "Hoy tengo ganas de ti," a duet with Christina Aguilera produced by the legendary Phil Ramone, has reached the top of the radio charts in Mexico.
"This album is a classic, a gem from my point of view. It has taken a long time because good things take time. Christina has an amazing voice, sweet but also very powerful and full of feeling. I am very happy and proud with the result," said Fernandez in declarations published on the website RPP Noticias.
In addition, the singer will participate in the Festival "People en Español 2013" alongside stars like Gloria Estefan, Demi Lovato and Wisin y Yandel, among others, in a series of concerts produced by Emilio Estefan. The event will take place during Labor Day weekend on Aug. 31 and Sept. 1 in San Antonio, Texas.
