Paris Jackson, daughter of the late international pop sensation Michael Jackson, has been admitted to a mental health facility for a 72 hour watch period after allegedly attempting suicide.
It is being reported that Jackson attempted to kill herself by cutting her wrists on Wednesday. Though nobody expected her to attempt suicide, it is also not an unsurprising turn of events for the embattled teen.
"She's a handful for the Jacksons," according to a family insider. "They don't know what to do. Paris suffers from depression. She's lonely, she thinks no one loves her or is listening to her. She doesn't want to be controlled or told what to do."
Paris, 15, has been caught up in an emotional battle with her family ever since reaching out to her long-estranged mother, Debbie Rowe, after the death of her father in 2009. Paris was seen with Rowe Apr. 28 when the pair went out for lunch together, and a photo of Paris clearly shows a line of cuts on her left arm, indicating self-harm.
Rowe signed over the rights to her children after her divorce from Michael in 1999, and many people in the family do not believe she has any right to be with the children now. Prince Jackson, Paris' brother, has been one outspoken member of the family, chastising his sister for bothering with Rowe.
"It has caused some problems between Paris and Prince. It's a very personal choice for both of them and they do not see eye to eye on it at all. But Paris has believed from the start that it is something that Prince will come around to, that he will change his mind as he gets older," a source is quoted as saying.
Ever since Michael Jackson's controversial death in 2009, the custodial rights to Paris and her siblings have belonged to her paternal grandmother, Katherine Jackson. Jackson, however, is 83 years old, and is undoubtedly able to relate to the children in the same way that a much younger parent could manage to do.
There have been rumors that Paris Jackson had sought to distance herself from the Jackson clan for some time before her attempted suicide. A source close to the situation has stated that Paris has suffered for depression for some time and had been considering applying for emancipation from her family.
"Being a sensitive 15-year-old is difficult no matter who you are. It is especially difficult when you lose the person closest to you, her father," said a statement released by Katherine Jackson. "Paris is physically fine and is getting appropriate medical attention. Please respect her privacy and the family's privacy. Thank you for the outpouring of concern and support for Paris. She is safe and doing fine. We truly appreciate you respecting our family's privacy at this time."
