Aaron Taylor Johnson is rumored to star in "The Avengers 2."
According to The Wrap, Taylor Johnson is the front runner to play Quicksilver in the new film. Marvel representatives did not respond to the rumor and no decision has been made on whether the thespian will indeed play the coveted role. Taylor Johnson's representatives also failed to respond to inquiries.
Quicksilver is one of two new characters director Joss Whedon is introducing in the sequel, along with the Scarlet Witch. They are twins whose father is Magneto. Quicksilver possesses superhuman speed,
Both Marvel and Fox share rights to the Quicksilver character, as Bryan Singer recently cast Johnson's "Kick-Ass" co-star Evan Peters as Quicksilver in 20th Century Fox's "X-Men: Days of Future Past."
Taylor Johnson was last seen in "Anna Karenina" with Keira Knightley and Jude Law. He also starred in "Savages" with Blake Lively, Salma Hayek, Benico del Toro and John Travolta. The British actor was also seen in "Kick Ass," as well as "Nowhere Boy." He will next reprise his role in "Kick Ass 2" and is currenly filming "Godzilla."
Marvel is currently in negotiations with Robert Downey Jr. to reprise his role as Iron Man in "The Avengers 2." Other cast members expected to return include Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Chris Evans as Captain America, Mark Ruffalo as the Hulk, Scarlet Johansson as The Black Widow, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, and Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye.
Director Whedon recently told Entertianment Tonight, "We should start shooting I think in February." He added, "I didn't think I was gonna do the second one, but I had an idea for it before I had figured out the first one."
Disney is slated to release the movie in 2015.
