The "Justice League of America" movie just can't catch a break. For months Warner Bros. has been back and forth on how to approach the film. With such a wide array of superheroes that already have their own dedicated movies, such as Batman, the Green Lantern and Superman, it has proven difficult to establish a common ground. But there are larger obstacles as well. The studio hasn't even signed on a director and has received backlash from others, such as Christopher Nolan. Then just when the pieces finally seem to be falling into place, everything goes awry once again.
With "Man of Steel" right around the corner, the Justice League movie has been fresh on fans' minds. The Superman film was supposed to be the missing link, the one movie to tie all the other Justice League members together, but based on DC's blueprint, there's still one key ingredient missing: The Flash.
The Flash is one of the principle members of DC's Justice League, and he still doesn't have his own movie. There's no face to the name. There's no Flash universe. And he's not the only Justice League superhero that's causing problems. The Batman portrayed in the Dark Knight saga is a loner, somewhat of a curmudgeon. It's also unclear as to whether Christian Bale would return to play Batman, something that Nolan is opposed to out of fear that it could jeopardize the Batman legend he's already created.
On a positive note, it has been rumored that Henry Cavill, the star of "Man of Steel," is willing to join the League, or at least create some sort of DC movie in wake of his new Superman film.
"Well, if any of these things were to happen," says Cavill, "which I don't know if they are, I don't know if they've even been spoken about - I think, ultimately, a Justice League movie could be fun, but to get to that stage, you have to do other movies in between.
"You can't just suddenly have a world full of gods when one god has just arrived. So, how do you get to that stage? I think a 'Batman / Superman' movie would be great because it brings that world together."
"Whether they're going to let that happen, I don't know. But a sequel to continue [Man of Steel] would certainly be amazing... and maybe start introducing some other things. Which of those comes next? I don't know."
Whether it is a Batman/Superman movie or the Justice League, fans will be pleased either way to see the DC name carry on.
*A previous version has been updated to clarify to mix-up between Marvel and DC Comics.
