Carey Mulligan has emerged as the front runner to play Hilary Rodham Clinton in "Rodham."
Sources told The Hollywood Reporter that "The Great Gatsby" actress is the producers' top choice to play Clinton during the early years of her career in public service.
Sources also stated that the actress will sit down with director James Ponsoldt to speak about the film and that both sides are eager to work out a deal.
It was also revealed that despite the rumors, no decision has been made.
Several American actresses have been rumored to star in the film including Scarlett Johansson, Jessica Chastain, and Emma Stone. Ironically, the British actress has never been mentioned at the beginning of casting. Chastain recently revealed that she was never offered the role and that it was pure speculation .
"Rodham" will tell the story of the New York Senator as a young lawyer on the committee involved in President Richard Nixon's impeachment and her juggling a diverging career path with her unresolved feelings for future president Bill Clinton.
Mulligan was recently seen in "The Great Gatsby" where she starred alongside Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire. She also starred in "Shame" with Michael Fassbender and in "Drive" alongside Oscar Issac and Ryan Gosling. Mulligan rose to fame after her turn in "An Education" for which was nominated for the Best Actress Oscar. She will next be seen in "Inside Llewyn Davis"
Ponsoldt last directed the hit film "Smashed" which won Special Jury Prize at the Sundance Film festival. His latest movie "The Spectacular Now" premiered at Sundance where it obtained buzz for its stars Shailene Woodley and Miles Teller.
Young Il Kim wrote the script while Richard Arlook is producing alongside Temple Hill's Wyck Godfrey and Marty Bowen.
