As the summer heat begins to bear down, so do television advocates as they prepare for the return of their favorite series. "American Horror Story" won't return until the fall, however, plenty of details have given curious fans a slight idea of what they can expect from the third season, which has been dubbed "American Horror Story: Coven."
Patti LuPone, one of the many guest stars joining the third season cast, talked briefly about the upcoming season with Broadway.com senior editor Kathy Henderson at the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts during an event sponsored by the League of Professional Theatre Women.
Lupone revealed that despite the season's title, "Coven," she will not be playing a witch. Instead, she will be the personification of the religious right, much "like Piper Laurie in 'Carrie.'" She's excited to spend time in New Orleans with the cast this summer as they film the upcoming third season.
In other "American Horror Story" news, season 3 will be adding another male character to the female-dominated cast. TV Line reveals that "there will be at least one more. The show is currently casting the role of Hank, the handsome, blue-collar husband of one of the witchy women (given his thirtysomething age, I'm guessing either Lily Rabe or Sarah Paulson.)"
Production on the third season is still in the infant stages, but the actors are gearing up for the approaching return to the set. Lupone will star alongside other newcomers such as Emma Roberts, Angela Bassett, Gabourey Sidibe and Kathy Bates. While speculations as to who will play the role of Hank run rampant, stay tuned for more "American Horror Story" news as the third season approaches.
