You're so used to making your books wait. You buy one, leaf over a few pages, and then leave it on the shelf for days, months, even years before you consider reading it--that is if you'll even remember you have it.
But what if you didn't have the luxury of time? What if every word on that book began to disappear each day? Wouldn't you rush to read it from cover to cover?
Eterna Cadencia an Argentine independent publisher recently created a book using disappearing ink! Aptly titled "The Book that Can't Wait" (El Libro que No Puede Esperar) the creation uses ink that fades and totally disappears in 60 days. Yes, it won't wait for you.
The book comes in a sealed plastic wrap, once it is opened and light and air comes in contact with the pages the ink starts to age, giving readers only 60 days to read from cover to cover before the pages turn into blank sheets of paper. So once you begin with it, you won't have the luxury to put it down.
"The Book that Can't Wait" is a collection of works from new Latin authors. The idea for the creation was born out of a desire to help struggling, new authors whose works don't always get the attention they deserve. "Books are very patient objects. We buy them, and then they wait for us to read them-- days, months, even years. That's okay for books, but not for new authors. If people don't read their first books, they'll never make it to a second," explains the publisher in a marketing video they made for the book.
With the innovative format of the disappearing ink, now new authors won't have to worry about readers resorting to half-read, unfinished books. The creation was so amazing it was sold out on a single day during its launch. Now first-time authors are looking at the innovative format to draw more attention to their work.
