Namibia and Malawi will battle in Group F of the World Cup qualifiers on Wednesday.
Both sides are locked in a close battle with Nigeria and Kenya for a chance to advance to the third and final round of World Cup qualifications. The top team in the group advances to a matchup with another squad. The aggregate winner of both legs makes it to Brazil next summer.
Malawi is current tied with Nigeria for the top spot in Group F with five points. The team has played three games and pulled off one win and two draws. Malawi's first game with Kenya was a 0-0 draw while its second game was a 1-1 draw with Nigeria. The club finally pulled off a victory when it took down Namibia 1-0 on the round.
Namibia sits in third place with three points in three games. The team lost its opening match 1-0 against Nigeria but managed a 1-0 win over Kenya seven days later.
After this game, the two sides will have two matches remaining in the group stage. A victory for Malawi would catapult them into first place and would essentially eliminate Namibia from making a deep run in the tournament. If this scenario were to play out, Namibia would only be able to acquire a maximum of nine points; the team would have to win its final two games and hope for losses to Malawi and Nigeria in order to win the top spot.
If Namibia managed a victory, the team would jump ahead of Malawi. Both teams still have to face Nigeria, the uncontested favorite in the group.
Prediction: The two sides battle to a 1-1 draw.
