Although the premiere is still nearly a year away, the hype surrounding "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" continues to build. Cast photos, interviews, behind-the-scenes shenanigans and homemade videos have kept eager fans at bay.

This past weekend, comic book legend Stan Lee stopped by the set in New York for a brief cameo in the upcoming sequel. The 90-year-old former president and chairman of Marvel arrived in Manhattan's lower West side dressed to the nines in a light blue suit with white pinstripes, taking a seat in an audience of extras during a scene that resembled a high school graduation ceremony, and he had a ball.

Several behind-the-scene photos show Lee getting chummy with the crowd and exchanging a few enthusiastic words with director Marc Webb. Check out photos of Lee in the crowd as well as many others featuring the film's biggest stars here.

Other set photos have revealed some major spoilers that fans may not have seen coming. Photos of Lee on the set are all good fun, but they fail to provide much insight into the movie. Photos from this past weekend, however, shocked fans when they made their way to the public.

Denis Leary, Captain Stacy in the reboot's first movie, will be making his return to the Spidey saga. But Captain Stacy died, so fans remain curious as to how Leary will fit into the film. His role could be part of a flashback, or perhaps he's risen from the dead? Either way, Leary will be making his return in "The Amazing Spider-Man 2," further fueling the anticipation. Check out a few of the photos here.

In "The Amazing Spider-Man 2," for Peter Parker, life is busy - between taking out the bad guys as Spider-Man and spending time with the person he loves, Gwen, high school graduation can't come quickly enough. Peter hasn't forgotten about the promise he made to Gwen's father to protect her by staying away - but that's a promise he just can't keep. Things will change for Peter when a new villain, Electro, emerges, an old friend, Harry Osborn, returns, and Peter uncovers new clues about his past.

"The Amazing Spider-Man 2" is set to hit theaters on May 2, 2014.

*CORRECTION: A previous version of this story incorrectly stated that actor Denis Leary played the Green Goblin in the original "Spider-Man" series. The actor played Captain Stacy in the reboot of the series.*
