The patent infringement trial between Apple and Samsung continues, but this time it is a verdict from the Netherlands making headlines.

The Dutch courts have ruled Samsung's Galaxy Tab 10.1 of not infringing Apple's iPad tablets.

According to reports, Apple tried to ban the Galaxy Tab 10.1 in the country over design patents, stating the rectangular shape with rounded corners were similar to the iPad.

While the Dutch courts agreed that Apple's "design right is valid," the idea that the Cupertino-based organization's designs are protected is limited due to prior art having the same features as well.

Apple has not commented on the verdict, however, Samsung did.

"Apple was not the first to design a tablet with a rectangular shape and rounded corners," stated Samsung. "No company should have a monopoly on general designs."

The verdict from the Netherlands comes as preparations for the second U.S. patent infringement lawsuit are underway. As Latinos Post reported, Apple has filed to add the new Samsung Galaxy S4 to the second patent lawsuit set for spring 2014. Apple claimed the Galaxy S4 infringed on five Apple patents and filed to amend current documents to add the Android smartphone to the case.

Apple's move to add the Galaxy S4 to the trial was originally hinted in a previous court document last month, which Apple made clear it would introduce the new Samsung smartphone among the other 22 infringed Samsung devices

The spring 2014 patent infringement trial will include the iPhone 5, Samsung Galaxy S3, Galaxy Note 2, Galaxy Nexus, Galaxy Note 10.1, Galaxy S2, Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus, and the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1, to name a few.

As Latinos Post has been monitoring, Judge Koh reduced the $1.05 billion verdict of the first trial, awarded by a jury to Apple last August, by 40 percent.
