As they say, "Only the good die young", this saying is especially true when one of the world's most admired Hollywood stars dies unexpectedly. Even the best and most powerful movie stars are not immune to death.

Here are some of the most shocking celebrity deaths.

Heath Ledger (April 1979- January 2008)

The entire world was shocked when Hollywood star Heath Ledger died at the peak of his career. Ledger was found dead in his home due to prescription drug overdose. The Australian actor starred in hit movies The Dark Knight and Broke Back Mountain.

Amy Winehouse (September 1983- July 2011)

It was no secret to the public how Amy Winehouse battled alcohol and drug abuse for years. The Grammy Award winner lived under the public eye with her stardom celebrated and talked about as much as her rehabilitation. Unfortunately, on July 2011 she lost her battle to alcohol poisoning.

Whitney Houston (August 1963- February 2012)

Music icon and best selling artist Whitney Houston sent shock waves worldwide after she was found dead in the bathtub of her hotel room in California. Many speculations regarding her death continue to spread but the Los Angeles County coroner's office ruled it an "accidental drowning with no obvious signs of criminal intent." Today, almost an year and a half after her death the public still mourns the passing of a superstar. She was 48.

Anna Nicole Smith (November 1967- February 2007)

Actress, model, and Playboy star Anna Nicole Smith was making news in the years and months leading to her untimely death. Her life began to spiral out of control after reports of her drug abuse and pregnancy caught the public's attention. In February 2007, she was found dead in her hotel room, reports say her cause of death was accidental drug overdose.

Michael Jackson (August 1958- June 2009)

Perhaps the most shocking celebrity death of all time could be that of the King of Pop Michael Jackson. Over the course of his career, Jackson had been hailed as a legend creating many of the world's most iconic songs to date. He was found dead in his Los Angeles home by the doctor who is allegedly responsible for the substances that caused his untimely death. He was 50.
