After Game 4, many felt that the Detroit Red Wings had a stranglehold on the Chicago Blackhawks. However, Chicago reminded the hockey world why they were the best team in the NHL with two straight dominating wins. In Game 6, the Blackhawks took down Detroit 4-3 to force the pivotal Game 7 on Wednesday.
Chicago continued its power play success from Game 5 with a man-advantage tally at the 3:53 mark of the first period. Marian Hossa scored his fifth goal, while Jonathan Toews added his fourth assist of the postseason; it was Toews' first assist since Game 1 of the series. Detroit's Patrick Eaves eventually leveled the score on a rebound at the 18:51 mark of the first with his first goal of the playoffs. The two sides took 10 shots apiece in the first frame.
Detroit took a 2-1 lead at the 10:11 mark of the second when Joakhim Andersson fired a wrist shot from the left wing over the shoulder of Chicago goalie Corey Crawford; it was his first goal of the playoffs.
The Blackhawks made a huge comeback in the third when Michael Handzus tied it at the 51 second mark. The Detroit defense left Handzus all alone in front of the net and he had the time to wrist the shot over Detroit goalie Jimmy Howard. Chicago would take the lead at the 5:48 mark when Toews dug the puck out of the corner and threw it at Bryan Bickell. Bickell got a shot off and pounced on the rebound to give the Blackhawks the lead. Four minutes later, Michael Frolik added a fourth goal on a penalty shot. The Red Wings would eventually score late in the third to bring Detroit within one.
The series will be decided on Wednesday in Game 7.
