Neymar has played his final match for Brazilian club Santos. By all accounts, the 21-year old forward cried.
"It was very emotional," said Neymar after his Brazilian career came to an end. "The movie of my life since I was a little kid came to my mind at that moment."
"It's a great honor to have played for Santos for so long, I've been here nearly my entire life," Neymar added. "Today it ends part of my history with the club but I'll be back. I'm saying goodbye but I'll be back."
According to ESPN, Neymar cried during the singing of the national anthem and proceeded to perform poorly in a 0-0 draw.
Neymar will now play for Brazil in the Confederations Cup. He is expected to join to his next club Barcelona shortly after the competition comes to an end.
"It's a dream come true to be able to play for a team like Barcelona. I've always dreamed about doing that and now it's happening," Neymar said of heading to the Camp Nou. "It will be a great honor to play with players like Messi, Xavi, Iniesta, Dani Alves."
Neymar joined the senior squad in 2009 and helped Santos win six titles, including the 2010 Brazilian Cup, the 2011 Copa Libertadores and three straight Sao Paulo state championships.
Neymar's transfer to Barcelona was announced Saturday morning after the two sides agreed on the contract. Neymar was purchased for approximately $32 million and an agreement for Barcelona and Santos to engage in two friendlies; both sides will host one match. Real Madrid apparently made a bid for the youngster, but Neymar ultimately chose to move to Barcelona.
