There will be a Game 7. The San Jose Sharks managed their third 2-1 home ice victory of the series to ensure that their season would last one more game.
The Sharks entered the game needing a victory after they were shutout 3-0 by the Los Angeles Kings in Game 5. The first goal came from Captain Joe Thornton on a 5-on-3 powerplay at the 6:09 mark of the first period. The Sharks players passed the puck around until Joe Pavelski received it on left side. He waited for space to open up and rifled a pass across the goal to Thornton on the other side. The Captain received the puck, positioned himself quickly and fired the puck into the net with Kings goalie Jonathan Quick sprawling from side to side. Los Angeles outshot San Jose 9-8 in the period.
San Jose would add their second tally just four minutes into the second on a rush up ice. Defenseman Scott Hannon fired the puck up ice from behind his net and eventually found T.J. Galiardi cruising into the Kings' end. Galiardi fired the puck from above the right circle and beat Quick.
The Kings eventually got one back when Captain Dustin Brown fired a shot from behind the goal that eventually made its way through Sharks goalie Antti Niemi.
"It's followed the script," Sharks Coach Todd McLellan said about his third 2-1 win of the series. "Home team wins, back and forth, it's time for us to get there and try and change the story. Obviously, we're going to have to play a much better game than we did the last time in that building. But they earned the right for home ice. It's our job to take it away from them."
The Sharks will attempt to win their first road game of the series on Tuesday.
