J.J. Abrams revealed that a scene featuring Benedict Cumberbatch's John Harrison taking a shower was edited out of "Star Trek Into Darkness."
During an appearance on TBS' late night show Conan, the helmer revealed the scene and also spoke about some of the controversy surrounding another suggestive scene.
"We had a scene with him where we saw him actually take a shower," Abrams told show host Conan O'Brien. "It's not in the movie but we have this. It's one of those things we ended up cutting."
The brief clip simply shows the camera track in toward an immobile John Harrison as the water runs down his naked body. When the clip ended, O'Brien quipped: "He's not enjoying that shower very much." Abrams replied: "That's the shower of evil!" O'Brien then suggested an alternate version of the scene with different music.
Prior to showing the clip, the two engaged in a conversation about a controversial scene featuring actress Alice Eve. In that scene, the actress is portrayed in black underwear. Many criticized the image for being gratuitous and exploiting the actress' physical appearance. Abrams noted that he may not have edited the scene correctly, but his intent was to show Captain James Kirk's womanizing character trait. He also noted that an earlier scene had shown Kirk bare-chested and he felt that the scene with Eve was "balancing" the images.
"Star Trek Into Darkness" received rave reviews and earned $70 million in its opening weekend. Latinos Post writer David Salazar wrote that the film "not only lives up to these expectations but exceeds them on many fronts."
