The Samsung Galaxy S4 has infringed five Apple patents, says the Cupertino-based organization.
In a new document filed on Tuesday, Apple claimed it "diligently obtained" a Galaxy S4 as soon as it became available through AT&T on April 27, Sprint on May 3, and T-Mobile on May 15.
Following an "analysis," Apple determined the new Samsung smartphone "practices many of the same claims already asserted by Apple, and that the Galaxy S4 practices those claims in the same way as already-accused Samsung devices."
Apple has notified Samsung about the Galaxy S4 allegedly infringing a number of patents on May 14, but as of May 20, the South Korean-based organization indicated its opposition to Apple's contentions.
According to Apple, the Galaxy S4 infringed on two patents related to the user interface, two on Siri-related searches and a data synchronization patent.
The filing does not automatically add the Galaxy S4 to the patent infringement trial, but is an amendment to the list of devices Apple accused Samsung.
Apple's move to add the Galaxy S4 to the trial was originally hinted in a previous court document this month, which Apple made clear it would add the new Samsung smartphone among the other 22 infringed Samsung devices.
The second patent infringement trial is set for spring 2014, where both sides have accused the iPhone 5, Samsung Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 of infringing a patent. Additional accused products, according to Apple, are the Galaxy Nexus, Galaxy Note 10.1, Galaxy S2, Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus and the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1.
As Latinos Post has been monitoring, Judge Koh reduced the $1.05 billion verdict of the first trial, awarded by a jury to Apple last August, by 40 percent. The percentage equates to approximately $450.5 million.
