Fans of the TV show "Mike & Molly" were left without a finale Monday night as CBS pulled the episode last minute. The series' season finale episode, originally scheduled to air at 9:30 PM on Monday, was supposed to feature a tornado plot. But in light of the devastating tornado that roared through Oklahoma the same day, the episode was pulled off air.
"Due to the tragic events this afternoon in Oklahoma, we are preempting tonight's season finale of 'Mike & Molly,' which has a related storyline," a CBS spokeswoman said in a statement.
"A repeat broadcast of 'Mike & Molly' will run in the time period. The season finale will be broadcast at an appropriate date."
A two-mile wide tornado struck the town of Moore, Okla. Monday afternoon, leaving a reported 24 people dead, including seven children. And while the state medical examiner's office cut the death toll numbers by nearly half this morning, the number of fatalities are still expected to rise as rescue and recovery efforts continue. Search and rescue team operations are still underway as homes, schools and hospitals that were leveled by the monstrous twister, trapping people and students under the debris and rubble of the collapsed establishments.
The 'Mike & Molly' third season finale episode was entitled 'Windy City.' Set in Chicago, the episode was supposed to revolve around a tornado plot.
"Mike and Carl get stuck working at the Renaissance Fair after their boss, Patrick, gets dumped by Mike's mother. Later, as a tornado descends on Chicago, Mike and Molly each confess important news to each other," according to the episode's description, as reported by USA TODAY.
The move by CBS to pull the episode was in accordance with its sensitive and responsible entertainment values that most television stations follow.
Other shows, like Dancing with the Stars, also reached out to the victims of the catastrophe. And the show's host, Tom Burgeon, asked for a moment of silence for the victims of the Oklahoma tornado. A number of stars and artists have also taken to their social media sites to express sentiment over the calamity.
