In the first round of the 2013 Stanley Cup playoffs, the New York Rangers headed into Game 3 down 2-0 in the series against the Washington Capitals. Thanks to an energetic crowd at the Madison Square Garden, the team managed to win all three home games and four out of five en route to taking the first round series against Washington. The team will hope for a similar storyline when they host the Boston Bruins Tuesday night.
After a closely contested Game 1 that was decided in overtime, the Rangers were dominated in a 5-2 Game 2.
"It's frustrating," Rangers forward Rick Nash said. "That's when you're supposed to crawl back into a game or take a lead in the game. We watched all the video, we got all the game plan, it's on the players now, the guys out there to execute, just as we talked about after the last game."
Nash's first postseason goal tied the game at two early in the second. Unfortunately, the team imploded with a late second period goal against and two more Boston tallies in the third. Despite the poor effort, Coach John Tortorella was encouraged about his team's chances.
"Some of the mistakes we made [Sunday], it was surprising, and a lot of it was off the rush, but I think that can be fixed because I think that's one of the strengths of our game," Rangers coach John Tortorella said about the loss. However, he mentioned that he was "very encouraged. I think we're going to be OK here. Like I said, you don't want to be down 2-0, we know what hole we're in, but by no means is this a really bad thing. We need to win a game and try to get momentum on our side."
The Bruins dominated the Rangers with a fast paced game that saw New York scrambling in its zone constantly.
"A huge part of our game is trying to use our speed to our advantage," Bruins left wing Brad Marchand said. "I think our whole team is definitely using that to their advantage right now. All that with chipping pucks in deep, we're a tough team to play against."
Prediction: Rangers take Game 3 with a 2-0 performance.
