There's only so much that can be said about the "50 Shades of Grey" casting drama. E. L. James and Universal have remained practically silent on the issue, letting fan speculations run rampant. There are several contenders that repeatedly top fan polls, appear in mock trailers and have earned their very own "50 Shades" Facebook fan pages, yet it's unclear whether James and Universal are taking any of their fans' aspirations into consideration. We can't even be sure if the fan favorites are even being considered. Nonetheless, there are still certain actors perfect for the lead roles that are getting plenty of attention, at least in the fans' eyes.
Among those top candidates are Matt Bomer and Alexis Bledel. While there's a slew of names circulating in the "50 Shades" movie contention, these two in particular are receiving a great deal of praise from hopeful fans. The two star in several mock trailers, one of which has accumulated more than 5 million views on YouTube. Now, a new trailer featuring the "White Collar" and "Gilmore Girls" stars has hit the web and received more than 181,000 views in its first month. Together, the two videos have earned more views than any other fan-made trailers featuring other popular contenders, including Ian Somerhalder, Henry Cavill, Emilia Clarke and Felicity Jones. Watch both the trailers below.
Not only that, but their "50 Shades of Grey" dedicated Facebook page, titled "Matt Bomer & Alexis Bledel for Shades of Grey," currently has more than 2,100 likes. Bomer's individual page, "Matt Bomer for Christian Grey," has more than 139,000, trumping all other fan pages devoted to potential candidates. The second most popular, "50 Shades of Ian Somerhalder," hails in comparison with 7,033 likes.
Although it's unlikely we'll receive word from either James or Universal any time soon, it's clear who the top contenders to play Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele are. So what do you think? Are Bomer and Bledel the ones for the "50 Shades of Grey" movie? Or more importantly, do you think James and Universal are approaching a final decision? The fans have spoken, now it's their turn.
